Our Unique Approach
University Prep Tutoring believes that the best tutoring is 1-1 learning with a subject matter expert. While group tutoring and classroom-sized standardized-testing courses can be useful, the instructors inevitably have to set their pace to the slowest learner in the room. Students who understand certain concepts waste valuable time while the teacher works to bring the rest of the class up to a minimum level of comprehension. Course leaders are forced to use generic, pre-set lesson plans instead of adjusting their time to focus on areas where students would like additional practice.
We know that our combination of 1-1 tutoring and guided self-study will generate the best test results. Motivated students don’t need to pay someone to teach them the basic knowledge required for the ACT or SAT. There are ways to self-prepare and grasp the fundamentals of English grammar (when to use a semicolon instead of a colon, active-voice vs. passive-voice) and Math (absolute value, SOH-CAH-TOA). Getting your best score comes from a combination of knowing the basic test material and reviewing actual prior exams. We provide a calendar with daily assignments and meet weekly 1-1 for 90 minutes to show how individual concepts are applied to SAT and ACT test questions.
That’s where University Prep Tutoring excels. We help students learn the basic material they need to know for the exams and then review real ACT and SAT tests with them, going over each question individually, clearly explaining “why” one answer is the correct one and the other answers are not. It’s that combination of knowing the core material and then being able to apply it during an exam that helps students reach their potential. In addition, we teach and reinforce time management and general strategies that apply uniquely to the SAT and ACT.
University Prep Tutoring has experts in all areas of the SAT and ACT. Let us create a personal learning schedule for your child that provides them the best opportunity to review or learn the material needed for their exam, and then reinforce that knowledge with expert analysis during 1-1 tutoring while going over actual prior test questions.
